Supported by Staples, “Make Good Reads Happen” is a contest opportunity through BGCA’s Summer Brain Gain: READ!, a literacy program created to help prevent summer learning loss at Boys & Girls Clubs around the country. Launched in the summer of 2014, Summer Brain Gain: READ! is a 12-week summer reading program designed to improve the literacy skills of America’s youth. Boys & Girls Club youth are presented with age-specific books each week, along with supporting activities. In addition to two 30-minute reading sessions each week, members complete fun activities that bring the book to life.

The “Make Good Reads Happen” contest asked Boys & Girls Club members in elementary school (Grades 1-5) to dress up as their favorite character from their selected Summer Brain Gain: READ! book, and Middle and High School members (Grades 6-12) could rewrite the ending to their favorite book. Two winning Club members of the “Make Good Reads Happen” contest (one per age group) will receive an eReader, “Staples Swag Bag” and a Staples gift card, and their Club will receive a reading celebration event.

Voters may select one winner in each age group (Elementary and Middle/High School). The contest voting window is open from Monday, September 14, 2015 to Friday, October 9, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. (ET). Individuals may vote once per hour (for each age group) and must be 13 years of age or older to vote.

Each qualified voter is eligible to enter a weekly sweepstakes for an eReader provided by Staples. Sweepstakes winners will also be able to donate an eReader to a Boys & Girls Club of their choice. Please visit the voting tab to submit your vote, then click on the giveaway tab to enter.

Staples “Make Good Reads Happen” Contest Rules

As a part of BGCA’s partnership with Staples, Inc. in support of Summer Brain Gain: READ!, we are launching the “Make Good Reads Happen” contest to invite Club youth to bring their books to life through imagination and creativity. Each age group—elementary and middle/high school—has a creative way to bring their favorite book from the Summer Brain Gain: READ! program to life.

Each winning individual per age group will receive an e-reader/tablet, Staples Swag Bag and a Staples gift card! The two winning Clubs where the individuals are members will receive a reading celebration event, planned by BGCA, to include gifts for Club youth, reading scavenger hunts, local publicity, meeting with Staples associates and more!  The reading celebration events will celebrate the importance of reading among youth and motivate Club youth to continue reading throughout the school year.
